Bonnie Hayner

Bonnie is currently the Co-Cordinator for Girl Scouts in Arlington (52 year and Lifetime member), secretary for Association - Special Needs Activities and Programs (A-SNAP, Inc.) since 1995, deacon for life at Park Ave Congregational Church (PACC) (60 year member), and website volunteer for Arlington Girl Scouts, A-SNAP, Arlington Rotary (Flags, Paul Harris Dinner, and Polar Plunge), AHS Class of 1964, PACC church Fair, Groton Dunstable Retired Teachers and various political campaigns (including Bill's for School Committee). She has created and maintained donation / payment websites for the Rotary Club of Arlington for Polar Plunge, Flags for Heroes, and Paul Harris Dinner.

After graduating from Arlington High School in 1964, Bonnie attended Northeastern University where she learned to program on an IBM 360 30K mainframe for her co-op job.  She graduated from NU in 1969, married Bill Hayner on July 19th (as the US landed on the moon) after he had returned from VietNam. They moved to Phoenix AZ for 6 months then returned to Boston so Bill could return to college to become a teacher.  She programmed in Phoenix and then back in Boston.

Bonnie and Bill moved to Pepperell when Bill became a teacher in 1972. They raised their 2 children (Jennifer born in 1973 and James born in 1975). Bonnie started programming from home (telecommuting long before it had a name) for GCA Corporation. At one time, the company had a direct telephone wire installed for her work at home.

Bonnie started programming from home (telecommuting long before it had a name) for GCA Corporation. At one time, the company had a direct telephone wire installed for her work at home. She worked there (by then at work) until 1995. Bonnie and Bill returned to Arlington in 1994 and she programmed for a year at Spectrum in Woburn She then got a job as consultant programmer at Volpe National Transportation Center in Cambridge. She worked there programming the trucking DOT number web sites. She retired from there in 2009.

While in Pepperell, when not working, Bonnie volunteered with the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, churches (both Bill's and Bonnie's) , and PTAs. She wrote programs for all them on PC's. When Bill ran for State Representative she was his manager and wrote programs for the campaign. In 1991, the town of Pepperell declared 5/21/1991 as Bonnie Hayner day.

When Bonnie returned to Arlington in 1994, she became her sister Debbie's guardian as their parents health declined. Debbie works at the Robbins Library (35 years), attends Special Olympics, dances, and Singalong groups. Bonnie took over as Secretary of the local Special Needs group started by her parents which runs the dances. She has remained Secretary and got a Certificate of Appreciation in 2007. She has put up a website for them and maintains a database for them.

Bonnie was a Town Meeting member for a few years and has worked at the polls for many years. She was involved in several local campaigns for School Committee, State Rep, Assessor, Select Board, Town Clerk and Treasurer by creating websites for them. Her first one was Bill's website for School Committee starting in 2011.

Bonnie was a Girl Scout from 3rd grade until 12th grade in Arlington. She was a troop leader, registrar, and organizer in Pepperell. She received an Outstanding Volunteer award in 1991. In Arlington, she has been Registrar and Co-coordinator since 1995 and she received an Appreciation Award in 2020.

Bonnie is on the AHS Class of 1964 Reunion Committee and set up a database and website for them. She helped run their 50th and 55th reunions and looking forward to the 60th at the new AHS. Bonnie maintains a database / website for the Groton-Dunstable Retired Teachers group keeping the former teachers connected and aware of activities and sad news. Reunions (pre-COVID) were twice a year. She created famiy websites including a donation website for her granddaughter's Eagle Scout award (Holiday Bags for COVID families.

When not programming, Bonnie loves to crochet and read. She donates many crocheted items to Park Ave Congragational Church annual Fair. She created a website for 2020's virtual fair donations.

Bonnie and Bill's children are both teachers and their grandchildren are Emily (18), Will (15), Abby (13), and Patrick (11).
